BHS 402 Cultural Diversity in Healthcare (3 Credits)

This course is for students pursuing careers in the health sciences. Cultural issues and health care principles, focusing on cultural influences on biological, psychological, sociological, intellectual and spiritual dimensions of individuals. Historical perspective to contemporary cultural health care.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss the impact of selected cultures on the ability of healthcare providers and the U.S. healthcare system to meet the healthcare needs of patients/families/communities.
  • Identify areas in a healthcare system are outstanding and three areas in which it is unable to meet patient/family/community healthcare needs
  • State three roles the student plans to develop that are culturally sensitive to the needs of a population as a contributing member of the healthcare system.
  • Critically review professional journal article in health sciences for illustration of course concepts.
