MPS550 Contemporary Religious Thought (3 Credits)

The course will analyze some of the major debates in religious and atheistic thought. There will be focus on the way in these debates are framed using modern epistemological frameworks, as well as the ways in which religious thought and atheistic thought may be mutually constitutive instead of being merely oppositional.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the rationale of several key religious and atheistic thinkers in modern times.
  • Learn how these thinkers relate to each other and the wider philosophical, cultural and historical contexts in which they are operate.
  • Analyze the importance of the thinkers being studied for wider debates between religion and atheism.
