MATESOL 612- Teaching English to students in Grades K through 12 (3 Credits)

This course will enable students to effectively design and create instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools when working with Second Language Learners in a K through 12 classroom environment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the relevance of state-mandated achievement for English Language learners.
  • Use English Language learners Proficiency Standards to plan, deliver, and evaluate instruction.
  • Demonstrate the integration of English Language learners Proficiency Standards in all content areas.
  • Understand language acquisition theoretical principles.
  • Identify effective grouping techniques.
  • Identify effective cooperative learning strategies.
  • Describe strategies to build vocabulary.
  • Summarize strategies to provide comprehensible input.
  • Apply strategies for maintaining student engagement to lesson planning.
