MATESOL 610- Techniques in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (3 Credits)

This course focuses on methods and strategies needed to teach English in a non-native English speaking environment. Students will develop knowledge and skills in designing curriculum and materials, developing instructional techniques and employing classroom management strategies that are appropriate for EFL settings.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe key components of effective instruction and curriculum for EFL students.
  • Identify metacognitive strategies used by EFL students.
  • Analyze the relationship between culture and learning styles.
  • Compare and contrast effective versus non-effective instructional strategies for EFL students.
  • Examine the stages of second-language acquisition as they relate to instructional strategies.
