EPI 653 Epidemiology and the Delivery of Health Services (3 Credits)

Introduction to the principles and methods of managerial epidemiology and its application to health care. (Note: This course is intended for learners with at least five-years of work experience in health and/or human service fields.) The assumption is that the learner has already completed a graduate-level/professional-level course in epidemiology.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify key sources of data for public health purposes.
  • Describe a public health problem in terms of magnitude, person, time and place.
  • Explain the importance of epidemiology and the public health sciences for informing the delivery of health services
  • Apply epidemiological thinking to planning, implementing, and evaluating public health services.
  • Apply the basic terminology and definitions of epidemiology.
  • Communicate epidemiologic and public health information to lay and professional audiences.
  • Draw appropriate inferences from epidemiologic and public health data.
  • Introduction to the principles and methods of managerial epidemiology and its application to health care.
