B.Ed 451 Introduction to Counseling and Guidance (3 Credits)

This course introduces students to the concepts and principles and practices of the Counseling and Guidance field. It explores a variety of work settings where counselors are found. The course focuses on professional ethics and how counseling professional identity has evolved over the years.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop an intellectual understanding of the meaning of counseling.
  • Understand the most significant and influential counseling theories and discuss research issues and findings around the efficacy of various counseling approaches.
  • Compare and contrast different theoretical perspectives in Counseling and Guidance.
  • Learn a variety of work settings where counselors are found.
  • Apply concepts in Counseling and Guidance to everyday life
